During our visit in St. Louis, Ginger was telling us about her field work in eroding grass lands, in China and elsewhere. Today's visit to the Route 66 Museum reminded us that erosion during a catastrophic 10-year drought created the horrific situation of the Dustbowl. A display about the migrants noted that Oklahoma experienced a population drop of 60,000 from 1930 to 1940. This poster prepared by the US government in the late 30s was meant to educate the population about the causes and dangers of erosion. Another poster was called "Trees-- The First Line of Defense."
